China in UN

By promoting sustainable development

Poverty

  • The rural population under the current poverty line has decreased by 739.9 million over the past 40 years

  • China’s approach to poverty reduction has been based on two pillars. The first was broad-based economic transformation to open new economic opportunities and raise average incomes. The second was the recognition that targeted support was needed to alleviate persistent poverty

Examples

  • development-oriented poverty alleviation

  • improving self-development capabilities of the poor population

  • encouraging multiple subjects to participate in poverty alleviation

  • focusing on innovation and ways to improve poverty alleviation

poverty alleviation policies

late 1970s → Reform and Opening-up policy→ Incomes of China's poor population have increased significantly. People no longer worry about food and clothing. Around 770 million rural poor people in China have been lifted out of poverty

2020→ ending poverty for the 98.99 million rural residents living below the current poverty line

Climate Action

The UN plans to integrate climate change measures into national policies of china. We see China aiming to reduce and even peak dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. It is a priority that the CPC aims to achieve as soon as possible. They have been working hard to achieve this, including establishing various decarbonisation policies and encouraging citizens to reduce their daily carbon emission through posters, educational talks and advertisements on streets.

Example

The UN cooperated with China to introduce a Green Economy Textbook in Tongji University. Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability (GUPES), helped to disseminate and introduce the textbook to a wider audience and even graduate students.
